I've joined the fight against Parkinson's
9 years ago I lost my Dad. He was my best friend, safe space and loved me unconditionally. I would not wish this upon anybody, young or old.
At 60 years old my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. This debilitating and undignified disease is slow and torturous. It eventually lead to him taking his own life 8 years later and the grief is unimaginable.
I don’t want anybody to ever have to go through what he went through. Entering adulthood without a dad has been incredibly challenging and there’s not a moment that goes by that I don’t miss him and long for one last hug.
Currently there is no cure, but working with people on a day to day basis undergoing surgical intervention for Parkinson’s has motivated me to work towards a better life for those living with the disease.
On the 29th of November I will be flying home to Tasmania and running 64km for the Bruny Island Ultramarathon.
This run will be incredibly challenging and uncomfortable. Never in a million years did I ever think I would attempt an ultramarathon, especially in such a special place like Tassie.
The thought of doing this for my Dad and those who are currently suffering will push me every step of the way.
I'm inspired by the work of Fight Parkinson's, so I wanted to join the fight and fundraise to suppport the Parkinson's community.
