Dear David Bartnik, my sincere condolences about the loss of Robert. I met Robert a small number of times in various math institutes and got to know him as a very fine and modest person who cared a lot about young people (and about everybody else too). I am still happily remembering a conversation I had with him at Monash where he realised I was scared about an upcoming colloquium talk I was supposed to give. He insisted to talk to me about my research before the talk so he could get a sneak preview which made me much more relaxed. This is very typical of how I got to know him. Best regards, Carla Cederbaum
